Lamb and Rosemary Pizza

On the menu of Lucifer’s Pizza, this is listed as the Greek Lamb and Rosemary Pizza with feta and kalamata olives.

It’s savory, greasy and salty, which is everything I want in a pizza. The crust was chewy and not too thick.

I’ll give it 🍕🍕🍕🍕🐑

I don’t like thick crust pizzas. I would recommend this pizzeria and they deliver, too. I think it cost about $30 with tip and delivery for a large.

Bold Ramen

That’s what is called on the menu at Tatsu Ramen .

It occurred to me that I hadn’t had ramen since I left Singapore in August 2016!

According to Yelp and Google, this is the best local ramen restaurant.

How was it?

The broth was delicious. I was very pleased with it. I ordered it with lots of garlic and a fair amount of chilies.

The onsen egg was slightly, ever so slightly overcooked. Instead of the yolk being like runny custard, it was merely soft.

Don’t get me wrong, I devoured it. The kurobota pork was fatty and intensely porky.

This place was fairly busy on the Saturday afternoon I visited.

I got my ramen fix and I left happy.

Quesadilla con Chorizo

No hyperbole, but this quesadilla was executed perfectly.

It’s not Beef Wellington, but it’s reassuring that cooks there have mastered this dish.

Or at least the cook working that night.

Cactus Taqueria, which turns out to be a chain, opened up on Vine, just south of Sunset.

There was just enough chorizo to flavor the quesadilla but not too much that it fell apart. The grease from the cheese made the texture nice and chewy.

The house made salsas were beyond reproach.

Tamarind soda isn’t my favorite, but it’s not bad.

Chilaquiles Con Chicharrones

Yesterday I drove my father to a dentist in Tijuana for dental implants. While I was waiting for him I explored the local mall on the northeastern side of TJ. Besides a Sears Outlet, there was a decent supermarket and several restaurants.

I went to La Doña, which was nearest the dentist’s office.

Wikipedia: Typically, corn tortillas cut in quarters and lightly fried are the basis of the dish.[1] Green or red salsa or mole is poured over the crisp tortilla triangles, called totopos. The mixture is simmered until the tortilla starts softening. Pulled chicken is sometimes added to the mix. It is commonly garnished with crema, shredded queso fresco, raw onion rings and avocado slices. Chilaquiles can be served with refried beans, eggs (scrambled or fried), beef and guacamole as side dish.

It was good. Salsa verde was layered atop fried tortillas and fried pork skin (chicharrones). There was melted cheese on top. I did try the hot salsa served in a ramekin and it was decent. I would have preferred more chicharrones.

I was excited by the Señor Frog’s bumper sticker on a car in the parking lot.

Liang Pi (凉皮)

I had been to the Chinatown location of Qin West Noodle before. So when a brother of mine (I have three) came to visit me I took him to Qin West Noodle. I realized it was a chain, so we ate medicinal gummies and took a Lyft to the closer location.

I had had liang pi twice in Singapore. Once near my first apartment near Woodlands and secondly at the People’s Park Complex in the Chinatown there. For the record, that’s my favorite Chinatown.

I knew what liang pi was: soft noodles, drenched in a spicy sauce with peanuts and bean sprouts.

Wikipedia :Majiang Liangpi (simplified Chinese: 麻酱凉皮; traditional Chinese: 麻醬涼皮; pinyin: Májiàng liángpí) are liangpi garnished with julienned cucumber and a sauce made of salt, vinegar, hot chili oil and especially black sesame paste, for which it is named (simplified Chinese: 麻酱; traditional Chinese: 麻醬; pinyin: Májiàng).[

These noodles were the softest yet. Soft and slightly firm, I greatly enjoyed chewing them. The spicy and savory sauce was likewise delicious. I understand why the manager or proprietor was so excited about the liang pi served there. It really is great. I could have easily eaten it spicier.

The Chinese soda was better than Fanta.

Honey Sea Salt Custard Pie

PieHole makes great pies. When they change their menu and it isn’t too crowded and it’s a Sunday, I will saunter in and order a slice of pie.

The flaky crust was perfect. I love egg-based desserts like crème brûlée, flan and custard. I wanted to like this pie.

Instead, i loved it. Honey adds the slightest of funk to pastries and it made this pie amazing.

Later I walked up to Runyon Canyon.

I give this pie 🥧🥧🥧🐝🐣.

Buffalo Tofu

It might be called something else. Anyway I like to visit VeggieGrill because their menu is food from the future, there are often beautiful women dining there and they have an artisanal soda dispenser.

These strips were made of tofu. Anyway the buffalo sauce was on fleek, as the kids say. I’ve always liked the texture of tofu and this chewy tofu was no exception, The vegan ranch dressing was passable.

I probably shouldn’t have ordered the falafel sandwich only because the buffalo tofu was filling. But I boxed it up and had the rest for lunch the next day.

Veggie Grill is really good. It was so crowded last Friday I went to Tender Greens instead.
